Lance Stroll, even with a delay to FP3, will have to wait for his Aston Martin to be rebuilt.
Aston Martin confirmed that Lance Stroll’s running in FP3 at the Australian Grand Prix will be delayed due to work on the Honda power unit in his car, even though the session is starting late. This adds to the challenges faced by the Silverstone-based squad this weekend as they deal with serious issues at the beginning of their partnership with Honda. Both Stroll and teammate Fernando Alonso have had limited track time in Melbourne, and team principal Adrian Newey mentioned the lack of spare batteries for their power units. Intense vibrations in the AMR26 have been causing damage, with Newey warning of potential “permanent nerve damage” if too many laps are completed. The team might face restricted running during the race at Albert Park, and both drivers need to qualify, which is uncertain due to the car’s pace. Alonso estimates he could complete up to 25 laps, while Stroll believes he can do around 15. Work on Stroll’s power unit has caused a delay in rebuilding his car for FP3.
